April 30, 2008 at 4:12 pm (Australia, Entertainment, News) (, , , , , , , , , , )

British actors Sienna Miller and Rhys Ifans are rumoured to be considering tying the knot when they visit Australia later this year.

Miller is due to make her next movie, A Woman Of No Importance, in Adelaide after she finishes work on her current project, GI Joe, in Los Angeles.

Newspaper reports in Britain say Ifans, who shot to fame as Hugh Grant’s flatmate in Notting Hill, will join Miller in Australia where the couple could marry.

“Sienna eventually wants a big family do in Wales but she and Rhys are always joking about doing it spontaneously and in secret when they’re thousands of miles away from Britain,” an unnamed source told the Daily Mirror newspaper. (news)

Ashley Alexandra Dupre “Gone Wild”

April 30, 2008 at 4:06 pm (Entertainment, News) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

The founder of “Girls Gone Wild” released a video that he said proved the call girl involved in a scandal that brought down New York’s former governor agreed to be filmed in 2003.

The video’s release came one day after series founder Joe Francis and his companies were sued for $10 million in Miami federal court by Ashley Alexandra Dupre, who claims she was only 17 at the time and too young to sign a binding contract. Dupre, now 22, also accused Francis of exploiting her image and name on various Internet sites.

In the new release, Dupre appears covered by a terrycloth towel and gives her name as Amber Arpaio. An unseen questioner asks if she is 18. (news)

Crazy lady, please stop talking

April 30, 2008 at 4:04 pm (Entertainment, News) (, , , , , , , , , , )

On a night when “American Idol” switched up the judges’ format by making them hold their appraisals until every contestant had a turn, Abdul offered feedback for two songs sung by Jason Castro – except that he’d only sung one.

Unlike the usual format, in which each “Idol” performance is judged immediately, Abdul, Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell were made to take notes, then offer individual critiques in rapid succession at the end of each round. The reason, Seacrest offered, was because “this show is so tight.”

So after each of the final five contestants sang one Neil Diamond song, Jackson zipped through his appraisals, offering a few terse words for each before kicking it to a visibly flustered Abdul. (news)

Troy Buswell, chair sniffing bloke

April 29, 2008 at 8:40 pm (Australia, News, perth) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

An Australian political leader broke down at a news conference Tuesday as he admitted that he had sniffed the chair of a female colleague, local media reported.

The confession came from the leader of the conservative Liberal Party in Western Australia, Troy Buswell, who has previously owned up to snapping the bra strap of an opposition party staffer.

Buswell told reporters at the televised news conference in Mandurah south of the state capital of Perth that he would not resign his post, which puts him in line to become state premier if his party wins elections next year.

But tears welled in his eyes and he choked up when asked how his family had reacted to the wide publicity given to the incident since the story became public at the weekend, the national AAP news agency said. (news)

Gov’t to remove same sex legislation

April 29, 2008 at 5:13 pm (Australia, News) (, , , , , , )

The Federal Government says it will begin introducing legislation next month to remove same-sex discrimination from 100 Commonwealth laws.

The Government says the amendments to end discrimination against same-sex couples will make practical differences, but will not sanction changes to marriage laws.

The move will cover areas like superannuation, tax, health, employment entitlements and aged care.

But Federal Attorney-General Robert McClelland says it will not extend to marriage.

“The government believes that marriage is between a man and a woman so it won’t amend the marriage act,” he said.

“But in all other areas that we’ve identified the issue of discrimination against same-sex couples will be removed.” (news)
