What about the country?

September 26, 2008 at 4:08 pm (Australia, Politics) (, , , , )

So it turns out that Malcolm Turnbull smoked pot, big deal. Why are public servants held to a higher standard than the rest of us? They are regular people just like you and me. Who can honestly say that they’ve never smoked pot during their college days? A more startling revelation would be if he admitted that he still smokes pot. Still the admission caused a stir. Perhaps the voting public would have preferred he lied about it.

Perhaps the truth about his personal life isn’t what we really want to hear but the truth about the government issues affecting the country. I’d rather he’d lie about his personal life (which I don’t care about) and be honest about issues such as the economy? Health care? The war in Iraq? What you do in your own time should be your business, however when you are on the job, representing the country, we the people should be entitled to know the truth.

Stress and depression doesn’t justify murder

September 25, 2008 at 5:42 pm (Australia, Crime, News) (, , , , , , , )

The so called “grandma killer” got life in prison as his sentence. The judge didn’t buy his argument that he was stressed and a depressed teenager. He gets into an argument with his grandma, things get heated and they start fighting. He grabs a knife and kills her.

What gets me is that he uses a pillow, covers her head, then stabs her. This implies he didn’t want to get blood on himself OR he didn’t want to see her face as he stabbed her. Guilt. On top of this he then later goes to a party?! What sick bastard does this? How can you go to a party after you have just murdered someone? A psychopath, that’s who.

I hope prison treats him poorly.

Blaine survives “stunt”, still lags behind Angel

September 25, 2008 at 5:36 pm (Entertainment) (, , , , , , , , )

David Blaine’s latest stunt called the “Dive of Death” ended Wednesday night after 60 hours in Central Park. The show ended during a 2 hour tv special which had footage of Blaine interacting with fans. His other stunts include: 61 hours in a block of ice, a week underwater, suspended over the Thames River, and buried alive. It’s a sad line of stunts which shows how desperate he is.

His popularity is falling behind that of Cris Angel. Maybe he needs a reality tv show to boost his popularity. His death defying stunts need actual “death” to wow the crowds and not just a weird factor. The age of the magician is over, the reality tv star has taken over. Where’s David Copperfield when you need him?

Today’s teens more brazen than ever

September 23, 2008 at 4:50 pm (Australia, Crime, News) (, , , , , , , )

More often these days you read the headlines about unruly youths involved in criminal activity. Whether it’s a child bringing a gun to school or getting involved in trouble parents need to step in a curb this kind of behavior. Obviously the child has no understanding of the potential danger a gun poses and these values have not been instilled by his parents. Perhaps the parents should be the ones attending a parenting class instead of the child undergoing a risk assessment test.

Maybe the youths are bored and believe throwing rocks at a train is entertainment? This kind of mentality is a sad commentary on today’s parenting and pop culture. Surely a stiff punishment would teach these hooligans a lesson.

It’s not only the boys getting into trouble. Young ladies can be just as aggressive and dangerous when behind the wheel. This poor girl was run down by another deprave girl driving a car. A cowardly act by a couple of girls hell bent on revenge for some perceived slight. Hopefully jail will teach her some respect for human life by taking away her freedoms.

Astonishing case of child neglect

September 19, 2008 at 2:44 pm (Crime, health) (, , )

3 people have been charged with neglecting 21 children in Northern Adelaide. 14 of the children were hospitalized due to malnutrition. Absolutely horrifying. Those poor children. At least now they are in better hands and getting 3 square meals a day. It boggles the mind how these parents could fail to provide for their own flesh and blood. What’s more concerning is how someone could get into this situation of having so many children to begin with. Criminals, the lot of them. I hope the magistrate throws the book at them.
