Do we put too much pressure on athletes?
All of that money, all of the fame, all of that pressure. As sports fans we have high expectations for success and have little forgiveness for failure. We want entertainment, not necessarily restricted on the field.
“Andrew Johns says the pressure is becoming too much for some.” (news)
As fans we hound the athletes on and off the field. We cheer for them, pay their salaries and expect them to acknowledge us, even on the street. But why? Fans should not have this kind of expectation. Sports should be treated like any other job. When the game is over, the athletes should be allowed their time off. Sure during public appearances, post/pre-game interviews, autograph sessions but not when they are shopping or out with their families. Makes you wonder how David Beckham manages to keep his sanity with all of the constant attention.
