Wife guilty of husband’s bondage death
A woman will spend a year behind bars after being found guilty of the manslaughter of her husband, who died during a kinky bondage session.
A Supreme Court jury in Brisbane took less than a day to find Jean Margaret Meiers, 58, guilty of manslaughter.
During the three-day trial the court was told 47-year-old Geoffrey Braunack died at the couple’s secluded home at Beerburrum on the Sunshine Coast on November 1, 2004.
The court was told Meiers failed in her duty of care after taping Mr Braunack’s mouth and using rope, tape and a dog chain to tie him to a concrete post on the patio.
She then left him tied up while she took a shower. (news)
Split: Lisa Origliasso and Dean Geyer
Australian pop music’s fairytale romance is over with news The Veronicas’ Lisa Origliasso has called off her engagement to Neighbours star Dean Geyer.
It’s understood Origliasso is staying with her parents in Brisbane following the split, which was confirmed in a statement from the couple, the Courier-Mail reports.
The pair say they broke up due to the difficulties of a long-distance relationship – she’s based in LA and he in Melbourne – but The Daily Telegraph reports music sources are claiming thoughts of a former flame may have flickered again.
Origliasso starting going out with Geyer last year just after breaking up with ex-shock jock, Craig ‘Lowie’ Lowe. (news)
Stinky rapist still stinky and guilty
A foul smelling man who repeatedly raped a 19-year-old student in her home has lost an appeal to have his conviction overturned.
Stephen Bruce Porter – who was dubbed the “stinky rapist” because of his body odour – was jailed for 15 years in January over the sickening attack at Wooloowin, Brisbane, on February 20 last year.
Porter, who was 42 at the time and infected with Hepatitis C, had pleaded not guilty to repeatedly raping the woman, saying it had been consensual.
However, a Brisbane District Court jury took just 40 minutes to return a guilty verdict on eight charges, including three counts of rape and one count of deprivation of liberty. (news)
Photo with Michael Clarke free, with cap $50
A Brisbane Catholic school has some of its flock in a flap after announcing a plan to charge kids $50 to have their photo taken with cricketing star Michael Clarke and his baggy green cap at their fete.
Clarke and fiancee Lara Bingle will attend the St Columba’s Primary School fete on August 2 in an appearance agreed upon through his manager Chris White, whose children attend the school.
And while pictures of the future Australian skipper without his sacred green cap will be free, a snap of Clarke and the child with the cap on is being sold for $50 – with all money going towards the construction of an outdoor, undercover sporting shelter for the school in Brisbane’s northern suburb of Wilston.
A representative from the St Columba’s Parents and Friends Association, Di Hempenstall, confirmed the arrangement yesterday, saying it had been given the green light by Clarke’s manager. (news)
