Dannii Minogue fled the set of a British TV talent show audition in terror after being threatened by a contestant’s family.

Minogue had been judging performers in a round of auditions for the X Factor when she used her casting vote to stop a male singer from going through to the next round.

Her vote angered not only the singer but his family as well, who waited to confront her.

The 36-year-old has told a Scottish newspaper she was “petrified” as the singer and his family tried to corner her.

She says she only felt safe enough to return after fellow judge Simon Cowell agreed to lend her his hefty bodyguard. (news)

Helen Mirren appears in bikini, puts younger women to shame

July 22, 2008 at 4:37 pm (Entertainment, News) (, , , , , , , , , )

The British are calling it “the bikini that could start a revolution”.

Yet it’s not so much the bright red two-piece causing the sensation but the show-stopping, 62-year-old body of Dame Helen Mirren that fills it.

These jaw-dropping snaps of the Oscar-winning actress frolicking on rocks with her husband in Italy evoke memories of sexpots Ursula Andress and Brigitte Bardot in their heyday.

As one British commentator remarked, Mirren looks better in a bikini than most women four decades younger than her could.

When the photographs were published in Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper last week – and replicated extensively online – they caused a frenzy. (news)

Chef Gordon Ramsay upsets Aussies with language

June 20, 2008 at 1:28 pm (Australia, Entertainment, News) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

It’s enough to rip an oath of surprise from the most genteel of throats — tough-talking Australia is complaining about the foul language of a British celebrity chef.

A Senate committee looking into swearing on television, prompted by objections to chef Gordon Ramsay’s expletive-laden Kitchen Nightmares show, recommended changes on Thursday to broadcasting standards.

Liberal Party Senator Cory Bernardi said one episode had contained “the F-word” 80 times in its 40 minutes.

“And I’m not referring to fondue,” he said.

The senate’s environment, communications and arts committee recommended parental lock-out systems should be made an industry standard for all digital televisions sold in Australia. (news)
