Thief gets 17 years

December 18, 2008 at 9:36 pm (Australia, Crime, News) (, , , )

A judge recently handed down a 17 year sentence to a thief. The sentence is notably longer than many convicted killers. Is this justice? I think it definitely changes your perspective of crime and punishment when a killer receives a 9 year sentence and a thief receives 17. What’s fair? I’m not sure what this means for future sentencing but I would hope that murderers and rapists would receive a jail sentence for just as long or longer.

If it feels good …

November 14, 2008 at 5:40 pm (Australia, Crime) (, , , )

Sometimes we all get caught doing something wrong. In some cases you just a warning with a promise never to do it again. This chap must have bollocks the size of king kong. Not only did he get caught and charged with having sex with a child, he kept on doing it! After being charged and told not to go near the club or the victim they met up again at a later date where they continued the sexcapade. I guess he figured he was going to jail anyways and figured that he might as well get as much as possible.

Today’s teens more brazen than ever

September 23, 2008 at 4:50 pm (Australia, Crime, News) (, , , , , , , )

More often these days you read the headlines about unruly youths involved in criminal activity. Whether it’s a child bringing a gun to school or getting involved in trouble parents need to step in a curb this kind of behavior. Obviously the child has no understanding of the potential danger a gun poses and these values have not been instilled by his parents. Perhaps the parents should be the ones attending a parenting class instead of the child undergoing a risk assessment test.

Maybe the youths are bored and believe throwing rocks at a train is entertainment? This kind of mentality is a sad commentary on today’s parenting and pop culture. Surely a stiff punishment would teach these hooligans a lesson.

It’s not only the boys getting into trouble. Young ladies can be just as aggressive and dangerous when behind the wheel. This poor girl was run down by another deprave girl driving a car. A cowardly act by a couple of girls hell bent on revenge for some perceived slight. Hopefully jail will teach her some respect for human life by taking away her freedoms.

Octopus sex man avoids jail but not embarrassment

July 18, 2008 at 5:39 pm (Crime, News, Technology, tasmania) (, , , , , , , , )

A Tasmanian man caught downloading images of sexual acts with an octopus has avoided a jail term.

Rodney Scott McLagan, 48, of South Arm in Hobart was caught with 31,000 images and video files involving sexual acts with children, dogs, ponies, snakes, tigers and an octopus.

Justice David Porter said McLagan had a personality disorder that caused him to avoid interpersonal contact and gave him a pre-occupation with being criticised or rejected, The Mercury reported today.

“Without the opportunity for normal sexual relationships fantasy is often indulged,” the judge said yesterday. (news)
