Australia is now a totalitarian state
Looks like “big brother” is more than just a tv show. The police have been secretly given powers to conduct illegal searches. In an attempt to crack down on criminals by exploiting the term “terrorist” very loosely, police can perform remote searches, examine the contents of your computer (without search warrants), and any other illegal searches they deem fit. Any so called evidence found (or placed) will be used to prosecute you to the full extent of the law. So much for your rights. Stop reading and go hide your porn, quick!
Tourists giving rescuers headaches
2 Korean tourists ignored signs and attempted to take their minivan through a washed out road. Police described them as idiots. They became stranded and had to be rescued. They were heading to Darwin. The road had collapsed during heavy rainfall.
For their irresponsible actions they were fined $90 as a traffic violation. Barkly Highway should be closed for 3 weeks. (link)
Cops caught on camera
They were supposed to be “on duty” not “getting it on”. Pictures have surfaced of 2 police officers at the annual Hooker’s Ball at Darwin this past month. Instead of patrolling the streets for criminals they were prowling the party and feeling up women.
The officers were caught in compromising positions and suspended from their duties. The Hooker’s ball is an adults event and has been held for the past 22 years. Male and female exotic celebrities attend the event.
One of the officers appears in the photo to be grabbing a woman’s ass while the other is having his crotch rubbed by another woman’s ass. At least it looks like they had a good time. Too bad the women in the photos weren’t better looking. (link)
Linux tool to help fight child porn
Edith Cowan University (Perth) working with Western Australia Police have developed a tool to help fight child pornography. The piece of technology is a Linux based program that can be utilized by front line officers, regardless of computer experience. The device is expected to be stored on a tiny USB drive and can be connected to a suspect’s computer to quickly examine it’s contents for illicit material.
The tool, Simple Image Preview Live Environment (S.I.M.P.L.E.) is planned for release early next year. Cyber liberties advocates have yet to lodge complaints over invasion of privacy as the device could lead to illegal searches and searches without warrants. (news)
Burping gets 19 yr charged at police station
“A 19 year old man who allegedly burped in the face of administrative staff at a north Queensland police station has been charged with being a public nuisance.” (news)
Now there’s being rude and being stupid. This man was both. He probably had a problem with authority and women. Hopefully a harsh punishment will teach him some manners and respect for the law. Swearing and being openly disrespectful to police officers in public is one thing but right inside of the police station? Wow, just plain dumb.
