Filtering ISP’s: too ambitious?
Looks like Internet filtering is here to stay but is the government’s plan too ambitious? Do politicians even grasp the difficulty involved here? The media authority plans to maintain a massive blacklist of websites which Internet service providers will be responsible for filtering out. If were a simple issue of running some software then it would have been done already. IP addresses, DNS issues, underground service providers. Throw civil liberties out the window. How far are we to becoming a “Big Brother” state? Who will police the police? At what point did we give up our right to choice? Oh I forgot, we’re too dumb to decide what’s right for ourselves. We might as well let the government decide that for us.
Linux tool to help fight child porn
Edith Cowan University (Perth) working with Western Australia Police have developed a tool to help fight child pornography. The piece of technology is a Linux based program that can be utilized by front line officers, regardless of computer experience. The device is expected to be stored on a tiny USB drive and can be connected to a suspect’s computer to quickly examine it’s contents for illicit material.
The tool, Simple Image Preview Live Environment (S.I.M.P.L.E.) is planned for release early next year. Cyber liberties advocates have yet to lodge complaints over invasion of privacy as the device could lead to illegal searches and searches without warrants. (news)

Now is this a situation caused by his dedication to religion or was he just depraved from the start? Fraud, cancer hoax, porn addiction? That’s a lot of problems. Clearly this man’s issues are something that developed and snowballed. He’s had these issues for a long time, why is it that nobody noticed earlier? Looks like he’s worked very hard to cover his tracks and possibly didn’t want help with his inner demons

Games more important than porn on the Internet?
More Australians use the web to find games than adult content, even in Queensland where searches for “porn” and “sex” are the most popular.
Comparisons of search terms over time and broken down by region have been made available on Google’s latest data tool Insights, allowing users and advertisers to see which subjects are in demand and where.
For example, web searches including the terms “art” and “politics” are popular in the Northern Territory and Tasmania – but only “politics” is of interest in the ACT, where searches for “art” trail every other region.
The Veronicas saw a spike in interest this month after nude photos allegedly showing Jess Origliasso surfaced on an adult website, but overall searches for the band have been in decline since 2006. (news)

The Secret Life of The Veronicas was exposed yesterday – literally – after raunchy pictures of a girl believed to be one of the pop twins were splashed over an international porn site.
In a controversial scenario reminiscent of the recent sex scandals which soiled the reputations of US teen queens Vanessa Hudgens and Miley Cyrus, steamy shots of Jess Origliasso have been posted on porn website Fleshbot.com.
Cementing her status as the wilder of the two siblings, Jess – identified by her distinctive tattoo on her bare upper back – is pictured with a suggestive expression in the sepia-toned image.
A second picture, showing a Jess lookalike in a topless pose, is also posted on the site though a spokeswoman for The Veronicas stopped short of confirming the secondary topless shot was actually the Origliasso twin. (news)
