Dannii Minogue fled the set of a British TV talent show audition in terror after being threatened by a contestant’s family.

Minogue had been judging performers in a round of auditions for the X Factor when she used her casting vote to stop a male singer from going through to the next round.

Her vote angered not only the singer but his family as well, who waited to confront her.

The 36-year-old has told a Scottish newspaper she was “petrified” as the singer and his family tried to corner her.

She says she only felt safe enough to return after fellow judge Simon Cowell agreed to lend her his hefty bodyguard. (news)

The female state government minister at the centre of the latest scandal surrounding TV personality Sam Newman says only he knows the true meaning of his “stupid and inappropriate” comments.

Newman made the remarks on last night’s episode of Channel 9’s Footy Show.

“In my mind, Mr Newman made a stupid and inappropriate comment, and perhaps in the future he will be more careful about what he chooses to say,” said Paula Wriedt, Tasmania’s Minister for Economic Development and Tourism.

“I have received numerous emails today expressing disgust at what Mr Newman said, and I would point out that many of these have been sent by men concerned at the nature of the comments.” (news)

July 14, 2008 at 1:36 pm (Australia, Entertainment, News) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

Jodhi Meares has survived her controversial no-show at the Australia’s Next Top Model finale, with her Foxtel boss confirming yesterday she had a job on the series next year.

The pay-TV channel’s CEO Brian Walsh slammed reports claiming executives on the model contest were “furious” after Meares pulled out of the live decider over stage fright.

“Nothing could be further from the truth. I rang Jodhi on Friday and reiterated the fact she has our full support and apologised for the media circus it’s become,” Walsh told Confidential yesterday.

“We won’t be discussing contracts (for next year) until next month, but I told her to go have a holiday and forget about it.” (news)

Navy not fans of Sea Patrol

June 2, 2008 at 1:36 pm (Australia, Entertainment, News) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

Sexy TV drama Sea Patrol has been slammed by former sailors who say its raunchy storylines are making a mockery of the navy.

Naval Association of Australia president Les Dwyer has accused the popular Channel 9 show of undermining one of Australia’s proudest institutions.

“The amount of sex on the show is simply a bloody joke,” Mr Dwyer said.

The revelation comes days after the Defence Department launched an investigation into allegations screen star Tania Zaetta had sex with Australian special forces soldiers during a recent tour of Afghanistan, denied by Ms Zaetta.

Mr Dwyer – who served 44 years in the RAN rising to the rank of Warrant Officer – says the program is an insult to navy personnel. (link)
