That’s a ‘Man’, man!

December 10, 2008 at 2:51 pm (Crime, Sydney) (, , , , , )

Not every blond is a true blond. Especially if they forgot to shave. (What, what?!) Some bank robbers go to great lengths and forget the simple things. Take for example this Sydney bank robber. He’s goes to the effort to get a fitting black dress, matching stockings, and wig but forgets to shave. Doh! That’s a real deal breaker. Nobody is gonna believe you’re from the circus especially when you bust out your gun and yell, “this is a robbery!”

Witnesses say they noticed a strange man dressed up as a woman sitting outside of the bank. !!! Um hello! McFly! What the hell?! I guess this is just one of those things you should overlook in our very open and accepting society. Way to go dumbass! You could have prevented a robbery if you just did something rather than just stare at the strangely unattractive man/woman.

Virtual searches will test boundaries of privacy

October 2, 2008 at 8:05 pm (Australia, News, Technology) (, , , , , , , , )

Soon Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide airports will be equipped with high tech x-rays. What makes them so special is that they will have the ability to perform virtual strip searches on passengers. In the name of “national security” airport screeners soon will be oggling nude images of you on their screen trying to determine whether your tiny schlong is a weapon and whether your girlfriend’s silicon breasts are plastic explosives.

Concerned? You should be. Last time I checked the people working at the airport were high school drop outs getting paid the minimum wage. Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Virtual strip searches + camera phone + celebrities = YouTube fame. Before you know it virtual strip searches won’t be invasive enough and actual physical strip searches will become necessary. Strangely only the attractive people will get searched … I’m going to fill out an application to be an airport screener right now.

Sydney mulling gay friendly zones

August 25, 2008 at 3:38 pm (Australia, News, Sydney) (, , , , , )

Australia’s gay capital Sydney came under attack from a rebel city councillor on Monday over its plans to create “homophobia free-zones” in the heart of its bar and nightclub precinct.

The City of Sydney Council this month voted five-to-four for the special designation for parts of the city favoured by gays and lesbians to deter violence, abuse and harassment against homosexuals.

The plan, which stemmed from consultation with members of the gay and lesbian community, could encourage local businesses to use stickers and other signs to declare their support for the gay community, The Australian said. (news)

iPods ok during exams

August 19, 2008 at 4:51 pm (News, Sydney, Technology) (, , , , , , , )

A Sydney girls’ school will let its student use iPods, the internet and mobile phones during exams as a new method of assessment.
Presbyterian Ladies’ College at Croydon will let year nine English students use the hi-tech equipment during exams first, before rolling out the program across all subjects by the end of the year.

English teacher Dierdre Coleman, who is dean of students for years seven to nine at the school, said the move was about “redefining” cheating, and would allow modern day technology to be fairly incorporated into modern education. (news)

Screw grounds Qantas jet

August 13, 2008 at 4:04 pm (Australia, News, Sydney) (, , , , , , , , )

Qantas grounded one of its Boeing 747 jets because a crucial screw, which could lead to the aircraft’s tail breaking away if it failed, needed urgent maintenance. Qantas confirmed flight QF31 from Sydney to London was delayed yesterday because of “maintenance requirements associated with a horizontal stabilizer jack screw”, Fairfax reports.

Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association secretary Steve Purvinas said the screw could seize up, leading to a disaster, if it was not lubricated regularly.

An Alaska Airlines MD-80 jetliner crashed off the coast of Los Angeles eight years ago, killing all 88 people on board, after its horizontal stabilizer jammed. (news)
